Try Scuba

The SSI Try Scuba program is your introduction to the underwater world. This entry-level program provides you the opportunity to experience the underwater world. There is no need to sign up for a more in-depth course to see if diving is right for you.

$75.00

Availability: In Stock

The SSI Try Scuba session is the easiest way to experience the underwater world of scuba diving. You’ll enjoy a one-time, entry-level opportunity, in a pool, without committing to a longer certification program.

Who should try this experience?

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to breath underwater? Maybe you’d like to get certified in scuba diving but not quite sure what it would be like? Then Try Scuba is for you!

To sign up for our SSI Try Scuba, you must be at least 10 years old. No prior experience with scuba diving is necessary, but you need to be complete the Diver Medical Questionnaire.

If you answered NO to all 10 questions on the first page, a medical evaluation is not required. If you answered YES to questions 3, 5 or 10 on the first page OR YES to any of the questions on page 2,  your participation in a diving program requires your physician’s approval on page 3.

What will you learn?

During class, you’ll meet your SSI Instructor or Assistant Instructor who will not only show you the basics of scuba diving, they will also review a few academics you’ll need to know to enjoy your Try Scuba session. We take your safety seriously so we’ll spend a little time in the classroom or on the pool deck to go over a few things.

Here’s a quick overview of your session:

  • After the paperwork is filled out, a short video will be watched so you can understand the risks of scuba diving and how to easily avoid them.
  • Will talk about the effects of pressure and how to breathe underwater on scuba diving equipment.
  • You’ll learn how to put the gear together, adjust everything so it fits, and how to move around with those big fins on your feet.
  • You’ll follow your instructor’s lead and demonstrate a few skills every diver needs to know.
  • There will be time for you to swim around on your own, play a game or two, and your session concludes with how to take all the gear apart.

Do I need a physician’s approval to dive?

You may need a physician’s approval to dive.   To determine if this is needed, complete the Diver Medical Questionnaire.  You can complete this in the App by going to “More”, “Records”, and completing the “Medical”  Statement online.  Or you can download the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire from our website.

If you answer “Yes” one of the initial 10 questions or “Yes” to one of the follow up questions, you are required to have your physician complete the Physician Evaluation Form prior to any in-water activity.  Please note if you take prescription medications or have had surgery in the last 12 months, you are required to have a physician’s approval.   Please complete the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire and obtain your Physician's approval.  The third page of the form must be signed by a Physician (MD or DO) and NOT a Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or a Physician’s Assistant.  You can upload the signed document in the Documents section of your Personal Data or email to support@diverssupplyindy.com

What scuba gear will you use?

You bring swimsuit and towel. Divers' Supply Indy will provide all the basic scuba gear you’ll use including: a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device, dive computer, and a tank.
